Spotify artwork for a fairytale musical cast recording release

Freelance Graphic Designer Wanted for Cast Recording artwork and components – Total fee £500 (or $670)

Snow White and Me – a New Musical (Original Cast Recording)

I’m looking for someone to create the key artwork for the Spotify release of the cast recording of Snow White and Me, a family fairy-tale musical written by myself and Philip LaZebnik (book writer of Pocahontas, Mulan and The Prince of Egypt) and Ronald Krushak. The album will be released at the end of May by NYC record label Joy Machine and we need bold, distinctive artwork that can anchor the visual identity of the show and inspire people to listen to the album!

The Brief

The primary deliverable is:

  • A square Spotify album image

  • Title layout:

    • SNOW WHITE in large fairy-tale font

    • a smaller “and”

    • a large ME

  • Tagline: “A New Musical”

  • Bottom line: “Original Cast Recording”

In addition, I will need:

  • The Spotify square (final high-res artwork)

  • Component parts (title treatments, fonts, assets)

  • A circular/social crop suitable for Instagram

  • Artwork adaptable for website and promotional use

Spotify recommends 3000x3000px for the artwork,. We’d also want a 4:5 ratio and a 9:16 ratio so we have options. The design will need to be approved by the writers and the Broadway record label, Joy Machine.

What We’re Looking For

This is a family-friendly fairytale musical about two teenagers from the real world who enter fairytale world to rescue Snow White from an evil queen. It’s funny, romantic, magical and playful — with princes, forests, a castle, and even a slightly mischievous romance between Rumpelstiltskin and the Wolf.

Tonally, it sits somewhere between Aladdin, Frozen and Wicked. Please see below a few references from other shows that we love. We particularly enjoy the bold simplicity of Matilda and also the magical sophisticated of Frozen. We do not want anything cartoony as that might make it look to childish but we are open to paint brush style or pencil if that appeals to you. We do want:

  • Something magical, inviting and sophisticated

  • A fresh, family-friendly and inviting image

  • Strong, elegant typography

  • A simple, striking composition

Elements that could inspire the design (not mandatory):

  • A large fairytale book (featured prominently in the show), or pages from a book

  • A forest setting, leaves, magic fairydust, the red poisoned apple

  • A castle on a hill

  • Subtle magical atmosphere

  • Possibly a single silhouette (e.g. the Queen) — but again not obligatory. Or the book.

This is a fun, up-tempo musical. It must feel enchanted, romantic, and contemporary — not cluttered, not too dark or gothic.

Fee & Rights

  • Total fee: £500 (or $670)

This agreed fee constitutes a full buyout of the artwork created for Snow White and Me for all uses other than a future professional commercial stage production (as defined below).

Upon payment, the Producer shall have the unrestricted right, in perpetuity and worldwide, to use, reproduce, edit, adapt, and exploit the artwork in any and all media and formats, including but not limited to:

    • Social media content and paid advertising

    • Website, email marketing and press materials

    • Playbill/programme features

    • Workshops, readings and presentations

    • Amateur, educational and non-professional productions

    • Licensing materials for amateur or international markets

    • Merchandise

    • Promotional and publicity use in connection with the development of the project

The Producer may adapt, resize, reformat or modify the artwork as required for the above purposes without further approval.

    Professional Production Exception

If the project proceeds to a professionally produced commercial stage run (meaning a separately financed production mounted by a commercial or subsidised producing entity in a professional theatre venue with paid cast and creative team contracts under standard industry agreements), use of the artwork as the official key art for that production shall be subject to a separately negotiated fee.

The Producer shall not be obliged to use the artwork for such production and may commission alternative artwork at its discretion.

All other rights granted above shall remain unaffected
